Job Description
SENIOR CHEMIST
Automation Personnel Service is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Chemist to lead the propellant development activities at a major manufacturing plant in Knoxville, TN. In this role, you will be responsible for managing various aspects of propellant formulation, application, process development, and supplier relations. Your expertise in propellant chemistry will play a crucial role in supporting production operations and addressing general company issues.
This is a direct hire position.
Salary
$100,000+ per year
Senior Chemist Duties and Responsibilities
● Develop new or improved propellants and energetic materials for automotive airbag applications.
● Formulate propellants based on application requirements and manufacturing capabilities of the supply base.
● Conduct trade studies and preliminary analyses of gas-generating materials in support of inflator development.
● Collaborate with suppliers to develop analytical and acceptance procedures, specifications, and test methods.
● Develop procedures, specifications, methods, and test plans for material validations and discrepancy analyses.
● Conduct material testing, provide training to technicians and suppliers, and perform data analysis with documentation.
● Resolve issues related to current production and developmental energetic materials and propellants.
● Supervise development efforts conducted by the company's gas generator suppliers.
● Create development plans, statements of work (SOW), and designs of experiments (DOE).
● Stay updated on government and university literature, patents, and current practices, providing recommendations on applications and development activities.
● Participate in decision-making regarding development priorities and provide information on project feasibility.
● Conduct benchmarking efforts on competitors' products.
● Support and maintain corporate chemical information for Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and similar documents.
● Manage the Advanced Engineering lab.
Senior Chemist Requirements and Qualifications
● B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in chemistry.
● Minimum of thirteen (13) years' experience in propellant chemistry.
● Experience working with manufacturing groups from concept to production.
● Strong analytical skills with a working knowledge of experimental analytical methods.
● Proven ability to analyze data using statistical methods.
● Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
● Experience in addressing safety, handling, storage, and shipping of energetic materials.
