Mechanical Door Mechanic
Automation Personnel Services is seeking a reliable and skilled Mechanical Door Mechanic to join a company in the Bessemer, AL area. The ideal candidate for this position will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining door systems, ensuring high-quality workmanship and adherence to safety standards.

Schedule and Hours 
Monday through Friday, some weekend work required.
7:00am-4:30pm

Mechanical Door Mechanic-Duties and Responsibilities
 
  • Wind large springs with upward motion of arm and assemble mechanical components or machine parts.
  • Repair and replace worn or broken parts, such as springs, and adjust and maintain equipment for electric openers.
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring equipment.
  • Carry supplies to work area using ladders or scaffolding and attach springs to tracks in automatic doors using hand tools.
  • Move door panels from trucks to installation site by hand truck.
  • Adjust doors to open or close with the correct amount of effort.
  • Replace or repair worn, damaged, or defective mechanical parts on electric door openers using hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices.
  • Install door frames, trim ceiling curtains, electronic-eye mechanisms, electric door openers and closures, and use power tools, hand tools, tape measures, etc.
  • Install glass windows as needed.
  • Assemble hinges, adjusting headroom, side room, etc., for clearance prior to determining appearances of door.
  • Gather information about existing structures.
  • Attach metal struts and tracks for structures or bucks using bolts, screws, rivets, welding equipment.
  • Position electric eyes, sensors, automatic sections into openings, air rail for track installation.
  • Position plan opening that has track power tools for heavy equipment.
  • Lubricate door closer oil chambers and pack spindles with leather washers.
  • Lubricate hardware to allow proper functioning.
  • Prepare doors for hardware installation, such as drilling holes to install locks.
  • Install locks, hinges, and other hardware.
  • Check proper fit, equipment, or materials.
  • Wind door closers.
  • Cut door stops or angle irons to fit openings and materials according to specifications or needs.
  • Study blueprints and schematic diagrams to determine appropriate methods of installing or repairing automated door openers.
  • Interpret blueprints, specifications, or diagrams to inform installation, development, or operation activities on systems assemblies of electrical components and systems.
  • Assemble electrical components and systems.
  • Connect electrical components or systems.
  • Cover metals with carpeting or other floor covering materials and test systems by operating treadles.
  • Test mechanical equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Bore out holes in flooring as required for installation using hand or power tools.
  • Drill holes in parts using caustic soda rotary brushes grinding wheels.
  • Clean closer parts using caustic soda rotary brushes grinding wheels.
  • Clean equipment parts tools maintain good working order.
  • Perform additional tasks as instructed by the supervisor, including housekeeping and clean-up.
 
Mechanical Door Mechanic-Qualifications and Requirements 
  • High school diploma.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and proper PPE requirements.
  • Willingness to work long tasks outside of this description as needed, including housekeeping duties.
  • Reliable and timely attendance.
  • Self-sufficient and self-motivated.
  • Willingness to be trained on the job in a manner consistent with clients standards to fit the unique needs of the tools we make and customers we serve.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed, including weekends.
  • Working knowledge of construction math, blueprint and technical drawing interpretation, and follow-through required.
  • Ability to perform job-specific physical requirements under specified working conditions, including willingness and ability to work outside when necessary, and can lift 50 lbs.
